First dynasty of the First Intermediate Period

The Old Kingdom ended when the central government fell apart as rival nomarchs fought for control over Egypt. There were supposedly 70 rival kings who ruled for only 70 days... but this is probably a fable made up to symbolize the chaos and anarchy that was going on at the time.
